Goose Rocks Beach Cottage by Whitten Architects

Often times when we jump into decorating our homes, we debate and research and wait, completely overanalzying and second guessing our decisions.  Today's beach cottage home feature via Whitten Architects is proof that keeping things simple and uniform can be a beautiful recipe for success - making a house feel calm, cohesive and welcoming.

***To view more photos from today's home feature, and to see further details, resources, and collaborators, head to Whitten Architects' website HERE.

This elevated Goose Rocks Beach Cottage is located in Kennebunkport, Maine, on a beautiful dune with views of the Atlantic Ocean.  With seagulls blue, beach sand neutrals, and casual lifestyle textures, this home is suited for entertaining and well as an active family lifestyle.

I absolutely LOVE the mix of contemporary elements with clean lines, yet the coziness of multiple nook spaces balances everything so well. I'm pretty sure our kiddos would be found in these built in bench spaces OFTEN!

The open concept between the kitchen, dining, and living room flows really well.  As a family who lives in a smaller beach home, I can't help but notice the sleek integration of storage from the kitchen to the built in benches, above the fireplace as well as the furniture.

Even with a cohesive color palette of turquoise / teal, tans, whites, grays, etc., there is a wide variety of textures used which adds TONS of interest to the beach cottage.  You have both wood and tile flooring, plenty of beautiful white planked walls (never met a shiplap wall I didn't love!), metal railing, mixed metals between hardware (drawer pulls, doorknobs, etc.) and lighting (this sconce is a coastal FAVE), etc.

I love how the shiplap extends to the ceiling here with those beautiful natural wood beams. What a FUN game room with those blue acrylic bar stools, built in benches, nautical sconces, and ping pong table!

When it comes to the master bedroom, again, all of the planked walls are just beautiful, and the choice of bed of patio furniture really allow you to take in the view without any obstructions.  Some people may prefer roller shades or curtains for privacy or blocking light, but what a gorgeous view to wake up to!

And no beach house is complete without a fire pit!  For a long time we had a gas fire pit, but living in the Seattle area (Pacific Northwest) just really lends itself to needing a wood burning fire pit.  It typically gives off much more heat and of course is best for s'mores (my husband has a thing for making s'mores with reeses peanut butter cups - anyone else?). ;-)

I hope you've enjoyed today's featured cottage and found inspiration for your own home.  Remember, making a house a home takes time. Enjoy the moment and be thankful with what you have and where you are today! :-)

Coastal Entryway Focal Wall Design

Hey friends!  It's been a busy weekend of painting, painting, and more painting here at our little beach house. My husband took our 3 kiddos away for a big camping trip while I stayed home, shoved all the furniture to the center of the rooms and tackled the walls, doors, and trim of our second story - it's not done yet, but it IS looking good! :-) I'm so excited to see the progress!!!

More on that soon, but today I wanted to catch you up on an edesign I've posted on my design Instagram recently (here is my personal & style Insta).  I often create and share designs there first (and share HERE), so come follow along!

Ok, so I seriously have an absolute obsession with Carol Benson Cobb's artwork. And that is not a word I use often! Her artwork is just SO stunning and inspiring - totally my thing.  One of her pieces is a clear focal point in this design below. You can find her work here, here, and here (the most options including originals - what a dream!).

As we work on one room at a time here at our little beach house paradise in Seattle, I can't help but have our office on the mind. With smaller spaces, it can be a great option to use a console table as a desk, like THIS ONE featured in today's design, or THIS ONE which is a major contender as a console table desk (it's gorgeous!)

Today's coastal chic home office design isn't for us personally, but it's pretty close to my idea of perfection and I'm hoping to incorporate most of the elements. :-)

Also, some MAJOR (30-50% off) Memorial Day weekend sales worth checking out:

The Best of the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale

Fashion Blog PostsAnneke McConnell

Today is the kick off of the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale, and I know many of us are incredibly excited to snag some cute summer sandals, handbags, tops, dresses, and more!

Even as a blogger, navigating these sales can be extremely overwhelming >>>> the shoe section alone has almost 4000 options! And that's just the women's, but I for one also have a husband and three kiddos (I am SO thankful for sales like these!).

The Half Yearly Sale lasts until June 4th, but let me give you a few tips before you jump in:

1. Start with the Shoes.

Many of the more popular shoe sizes sell out right off the bat, so I suggest starting there with a bit of an idea of what you need.  Get as specific as you can in the search on size, color, style, etc. You can bet I've got these Coach espadrille sandals in my cart!

2. Grab Your Handbag Picks.

Many of the favorite handbags are the next to go, so if you see a handbag you love, snag it right away! I missed out on an amazing deal for the Tory Burch Parker Tote because I waited a few hours. It's still on sale elsewhere,  but still a bit higher priced. Lesson learned >>>> if you know you'd like to go for it, don't wait.

3. Buy in Batches.

Speaking of.........it may sound a bit crazy to some, but because Nordstrom is so amazing with their free shipping and returns policy, I recommend buying items in batches instead of doing a big "Final Order". But only if you are certain about the items (particularly shoes and handbags)!  This way you don't lose out on an incredible deal, since most items are 40-50% off.

4. This is the time to buy RUGS.

I'm particularly fond of the Dash & Albert and Couristan rugs, especially with a stair runner installation project on the horizon. There are so many great options though!

I still have a lot of browsing around to do, but here are my personal top picks and a favorites round up for YOU! Have FUN!! ;-)
