You guys!! It's finally about finished! Our Master Bedroom at the Beach House has been work in progress for quite awhile. I mean.....please tell me I'm not the only one who tends to focus on all the OTHER spaces in the house before the master bedroom.

Of all the rooms that people tackle in their homes to update, I've discovered that the Master Bedroom is often at the end of the list. Who doesn't like to focus on the kitchen and living spaces, making their kid's bedrooms special or the guest room comfortable?

This has been the case for us, and I'm honored to partner with one of my favorite brands, Serena & Lily to transform our bedroom into a relaxing retreat.  Talk about a pinch me moment!

If you have been putting your bedroom off for quite some time, rest assured it doesn't take much to pull together a beautiful and sophisticated space. You absolutely deserve it to end your day in a room that brings you joy, calm, and a good night's rest....a place just for you.

Here it is!

To give you an idea of the before, here are a couple of photos from when we had our house listed on the vacation rental market.  It gives you a real view at what's going on (i.e. those windows have always been such a weird mystery to me....like why?)

It's also worth mentioning that you can't see the bright orange closet doors. Haha! I've painted the majority of the doors and trim throughout the house to Benjamin Moore's Simply White and LOVE it. Other colors in this makeover are at the end of the post.

Needless to say, it's been nice to make our bedroom (and home for that matter) more "us"! ;-)

It may not seem like a big deal, but at the end of the day when I walk into our room, it's just so peaceful and calming. I really wanted the bedroom to feel like a casual chic oasis of sorts while still sticking to our Pacific Northwest roots.

The white linen duvet cover and shams make me feel like we're on vacation every day, with that classic beach house vibe. I almost chose a different color (there are five options!), but I know that as I change small items seasonally in the bedroom, the white will be a key staple bedding item that will last for years to come.

The Sutter linen quilt in pink sand adds a feminine touch without being over the top. It's a great light weight option while still adding warmth (and layers in the colder months).

The Whitley embroidered pillows in Flax are something I've had my eye on for awhile. They are so stunning in person and the quality is top notch with the embroidery on both sides of the pillow cover.  Quick tip: if you're looking to create a fuller look to your pillows, be sure to use one size larger on your pillow insert than the cover. The Eva Tassel Pillow Cover in white finishes off the bedding ensemble in the front.  One thing I love about Serena & Lily's pillows is how they all coordinate effortlessly together.

When you turn to the foot of the bed, you get a better idea for the size of the bedroom, which we love and make it work for us.  The Tulum Rug was such a key piece in grounding the entire bedroom and also lightening up the room since the floors (which came with the house when we bought it) are much darker.  The neutral rug made such a HUGE impact in the entire bedroom coming together! The pattern is subtle and adds just enough interest while being anything but boring.

The Beaufort Tray is something that can move around our beach house as needed, but for now sits nestled on our bedroom dresser (a piece I repainted) to corral small items such as my go-to earrings, plus greens or a vase of flowers and coastal shells. This is an extremely sturdy tray and the mix of raffia and seagrass makes for a beautiful set up no matter where you place it!

Here you can see a better view of the Tulum Rug and another favorite of mine, the Topanga Pillow Cover in blue. I like to say it's "Copper Approved", since this is one of our maltipoo's favorite hang out spots. The medium Tassel Basket below is also a great size for storing a handful of throw blankets (or books, toys, etc.). Blue is one of my favorite colors and I love the touch of color it brings to the room.

The round Sandbar Tray is one of my personal favorites of all Serena & Lily pieces and is an instant classic for any beach inspired home.  The seagrass is beautiful and chic, as well as extremely versatile and functional.

Thanks so much for checking out our beach house master bedroom makeover and I hope it inspires you in your own home endeavors!

Our PNW Beach House Patio Makeover Plan

Coastal Interiors, Edesign, Home Blog Posts, Home Decor, Our Home, Our Beach HouseAnneke McConnell

Our beach house is relatively tiny and living in the Pacific Northwest Seattle area means that when it's warm and sunny outside, you want to make the most of it!  Updating our patio space for the Summer has been "on deck" for awhile now, and I'm so excited to share more of the transformation on Instagram as this plan comes to life! Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. The patio is an extension of our home and where we spend A LOT of our time during the Summer months June-September. The weather is typically between 70s and 80s and perfect for playing outside, beach activities, walks, kayaking, boating, outside dining, etc.

2. We LOVE to have people over to hang out, eat good food, let the kids play, etc.  Updating our patio dining area has been HUGE on my wishlist for the past couple of years, so I'm pretty excited about this new outdoor dining set to welcome family and friends alike. With the added space, we can host larger groups than other times of the year when it's gray and rainy outside.

3. We're a "down to earth" kind of family and things can get messy, so whatever we planned for the patio had to accommodate fishing activities (the fire pit area is also where we'll need a spot for bait boxes, coolers, etc. as we come and go during launching).  Our kiddos and their friends are also often running across the deck from one house to the next or from the beach side of the house to the street/back lot side. Sand is flying, rock treasures abound, etc. and so I've been brainstorming design ideas to make this patio a happy balance between a "beautiful and calm oasis" to "family-friendly fun zone". :-)

Some of the items in today's design we already own (like the outdoor sectional) and others are on order slowly arriving one by one.  This will definitely be completed in a few phases.

Let's dive into the design plan for the three different sections of the patio: the lounge area, the dining area, and the fire pit area (also right off the boat ramp and multipurpose utility area).

Foldable adirondack chairs were a MUST for this space since we need to be able to move everything out of the way for fishing gear at different times.

There can definitely be more components when it comes to an outdoor space since they may be multiple "zones" you're working with.  This kind of feels like three rooms in one. :-)  We're excited to share the process and how it all comes together, and hopefully it inspires you and gives you ideas for your own patio or porch space!

I'll share updates as we move along (hopefully writing more too)! It's crazy town here at the end of the school year!! xoxo

DIY IKEA MIRROR MAKEOVER

DIY, Home Blog Posts, Our Beach House, PaintingAnneke McConnell

Hey friends! You have been sharing so much amazing feedback on the Beach House Vacation Rental! I'm so glad it is inspiring you to plan a trip with some girlfriends, because it really is a special time to connect and recharge. :-)

Back when I shared our Master Bedroom Makeover plan, I didn't include two things in the design board.  One was a dresser that we already had (I had previously painted it Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite with Dark Wax) and am almost done making over into a classic coastal white beauty. More on that makeover soon!

Today's DIY makeover post is all about the other item, an IKEA Songe mirror (no longer sold). The original finish was a silver which we spray painted gold for my daughter's bedroom makeover.  Now that the mirror was moved into our bedroom, I wanted to give it an update since we were going for a casual coastal, but sophisticated vibe.

Here's how it turned out and I have to say I am so in love with it!

IMG_2762.jpg

The process was simple, layering a couple of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint colors using a dry brush technique. That is one of my favorite finishes to get a beach coastal look.

To get the look I used:

Purdy Cub Angle Brush

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Pure White

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint French Linen

Annie Sloan Clear Wax

220 Grit Sandpaper

I love how the gold from the previous makeover is peeking through! One of my favorite color mixes is gray and gold. I'm pretty happy with the details when you look close!

More details coming soon on our entire Beach House Master Bedroom Makeover! It's been such a fun process to pull it all together.  The Serena & Lily rug is currently 30% off with all other rugs site wide which is a HUGE discount for a rug that's so versatile and durable - we LOVE it!!!

Beach House Master Bedroom Makeover Idea

Bedroom, Coastal Interiors, Master Bedroom, Our Beach HouseAnneke McConnell

Hey friends! Today's edesign is a little personal as it's the first concept for our very own Master Bedroom at the Beach House. To say I'm excited is an understatement!

Without going into it too much right now, fingers crossed we'll be building a couple houses this upcoming year, one to move in to and one to sell.  Come follow along on instagram, because you can bet I'll be sharing ALL about the process in stories! We're still finalizing some reports and backend logistics, but so far everything is pointing in the right direction. I'm anxiously waiting to meet up with our architect!

Now.....I have to be clear. We are NEVER getting rid of our Beach House.....never ever EVER. There's a lot more to the story behind why building is the right move for us, and hopefully I can share that in time, but the homes will be relatively close by, and I'll share more as details unfold.

Right now we really want to get back to that feeling in our beach house of when we had it listed as a simple, uncluttered vacation rental home, and as a family of five, that can be challenging in a space with little built-in storage and under 2000 square feet.  The decorating process has been slower than I'd like with this home, and we've played musical rooms more times than I can count, but that's ok. If anything, making a house a home IS a process.  We're putting A LOT into these big build projects, so this makeover is on the relatively affordable side.

Here's the plan for the beach house master bedroom!

Beach House Master Bedroom Makeover Plan.png

Houzz Sonneman 1-Light Palo Wall Lamp in Black Brass / Houzz Beige Upholstered Diamond Tufted Wingback Bed / McGee & Co. SEASCAPE 2 Artwork / Target White Linen Look Curtains (10 colors available) / Bed Bad & Beyond European Pillow Sham in Navy/White / Serena & Lily Addie Stripe Tassel Pillow Cover / Target Cream Paisley Throw Pillow / Brass Hat or Purse Wall Hooks / Bed Bath & Beyond Blue Paisley Duvet Cover Set / Pottery Barn Chunky Wool & JUTE Rug in Natural (also available in gray) / Live Fiddle Fig Leaf Plant / Joss and Main 3-Piece Seagrass Basket Set / Target Gilford Gray Desk / Houzz Claudia Fabric Dining Chair

A couple notes:

1. Over time, I've learned what really makes me happy, and it comes down to neutrals with navy and deep greens.  I want our bedroom to feel open and airy, yet grounded and calm.

2. There are a few items missing from this design board like some new Natural Shades and Blue Armchair (I just ordered this today and am so excited about the price!), a mirror, dresser, art, etc.

3. We decided to try a desk next to the bed and use it as a nightstand as well.  We are also working on making a guest room more user friendly, and our room has more space to add a desk, so we're giving it a go!
