You guys!! It's finally about finished! Our Master Bedroom at the Beach House has been work in progress for quite awhile. I mean.....please tell me I'm not the only one who tends to focus on all the OTHER spaces in the house before the master bedroom.

Of all the rooms that people tackle in their homes to update, I've discovered that the Master Bedroom is often at the end of the list. Who doesn't like to focus on the kitchen and living spaces, making their kid's bedrooms special or the guest room comfortable?

This has been the case for us, and I'm honored to partner with one of my favorite brands, Serena & Lily to transform our bedroom into a relaxing retreat.  Talk about a pinch me moment!

If you have been putting your bedroom off for quite some time, rest assured it doesn't take much to pull together a beautiful and sophisticated space. You absolutely deserve it to end your day in a room that brings you joy, calm, and a good night's rest....a place just for you.

Here it is!

To give you an idea of the before, here are a couple of photos from when we had our house listed on the vacation rental market.  It gives you a real view at what's going on (i.e. those windows have always been such a weird mystery to me....like why?)

It's also worth mentioning that you can't see the bright orange closet doors. Haha! I've painted the majority of the doors and trim throughout the house to Benjamin Moore's Simply White and LOVE it. Other colors in this makeover are at the end of the post.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Needless to say, it's been nice to make our bedroom (and home for that matter) more "us"! ;-)

It may not seem like a big deal, but at the end of the day when I walk into our room, it's just so peaceful and calming. I really wanted the bedroom to feel like a casual chic oasis of sorts while still sticking to our Pacific Northwest roots.

The white linen duvet cover and shams make me feel like we're on vacation every day, with that classic beach house vibe. I almost chose a different color (there are five options!), but I know that as I change small items seasonally in the bedroom, the white will be a key staple bedding item that will last for years to come.

The Sutter linen quilt in pink sand adds a feminine touch without being over the top. It's a great light weight option while still adding warmth (and layers in the colder months).

The Whitley embroidered pillows in Flax are something I've had my eye on for awhile. They are so stunning in person and the quality is top notch with the embroidery on both sides of the pillow cover.  Quick tip: if you're looking to create a fuller look to your pillows, be sure to use one size larger on your pillow insert than the cover. The Eva Tassel Pillow Cover in white finishes off the bedding ensemble in the front.  One thing I love about Serena & Lily's pillows is how they all coordinate effortlessly together.

When you turn to the foot of the bed, you get a better idea for the size of the bedroom, which we love and make it work for us.  The Tulum Rug was such a key piece in grounding the entire bedroom and also lightening up the room since the floors (which came with the house when we bought it) are much darker.  The neutral rug made such a HUGE impact in the entire bedroom coming together! The pattern is subtle and adds just enough interest while being anything but boring.

The Beaufort Tray is something that can move around our beach house as needed, but for now sits nestled on our bedroom dresser (a piece I repainted) to corral small items such as my go-to earrings, plus greens or a vase of flowers and coastal shells. This is an extremely sturdy tray and the mix of raffia and seagrass makes for a beautiful set up no matter where you place it!

Here you can see a better view of the Tulum Rug and another favorite of mine, the Topanga Pillow Cover in blue. I like to say it's "Copper Approved", since this is one of our maltipoo's favorite hang out spots. The medium Tassel Basket below is also a great size for storing a handful of throw blankets (or books, toys, etc.). Blue is one of my favorite colors and I love the touch of color it brings to the room.

The round Sandbar Tray is one of my personal favorites of all Serena & Lily pieces and is an instant classic for any beach inspired home.  The seagrass is beautiful and chic, as well as extremely versatile and functional.

Thanks so much for checking out our beach house master bedroom makeover and I hope it inspires you in your own home endeavors!

Sea Fan Wall Decor

Coastal Interiors, Styling Tips, Interiors, Home DecorAnneke McConnell

One of the best ways to add a coastal feel to your home is to include natural elements.  Whether that's in the form of driftwood (see this post), seashells, coral, or sisal/jute rugs, it's easy to achieve a cohesive, fuss-free look.

One coastal home decor item every beach loving person can easily include in their home is sea fan wall art. It makes a BEAUTIFUL statement piece and is easy to incorporate anywhere with (typically) just a few colors within the art.

Unframed options are a great affordable option as well.

I LOVE this beautiful sea fan a family member got for me on an overseas vacation trip and put it in a dark stained shadow box. It's such a special piece in our little beach house. :-)

Fall/Winter Style: One Dress Styled Four Ways

Fall Fashion, Fashion, Fashion Blog Posts, Handbags, Styling TipsAnneke McConnell

I'm always looking to mix and match pieces from my wardrobe and give staple pieces a different look depending on how they're paired.  I recently came across this dolman sleeve sweater dress which has a great fit and a little class to it. I love that it's a turtleneck too for these super cold days AND it's a pretty taupe color that goes with virtually everything! #winwin

First things first, it's easy to mix and match when you're staying within the same color palette and I threw in a little color with forest green handbag.  No matter what colors you gravitate toward for your closet, don't apologize for it and then have fun with little pieces here and there or even makeup and nail colors. :-)

LOOKS #1: The Dress Solo

Of course you can always go for a more simple look and wear a dress like this by itself.  This also shows you what it looks like as is! Even just adding an accessory like a belt or a statement necklace will do wonders and may be more of the focal point of the outfit.

Below is just a quick change of shoes, from black suede heeled booties (currently on sale) to taupe suede knee high boots (mine are the wide calf version).

LOOK #2: A Little Bit of Edge

This might be one of my favorite looks because it's amazing what a bit of texture and contrast can do when creating an outfit.  I love that this faux leather biker jacket comes with a removable hood, so you can create a chic look like this OR just pair it with jeans and a tee for a casual look.

You have the SAME leggings, suede heeled booties, handbag, earrings and choker. Just the jacket was added.

LOOK #3: The Cozy Vibe

Now to get a more cozy look, replace that black faux leather jacket for a warm creamy colored turtleneck poncho.  (This comes in black and ivory)

It may seem unlikely that a turtleneck over a turtleneck would work, but in this case it does because the underlayer is thinner than the top layer. :-)

On a side note, I am wearing this poncho with EVERYTHING right now!! Love it, love it, LOVE IT. It's perfect for these colder months!

LOOK #4: Neutral Chic

Ok, last but not least. If you're looking for more of the layered shawl look, this leopard reversible poncho is a great one for less than $40. I thought it would overwhelm my 5'3" frame, but I loved it right away!

I love the fact that it is reversible with the same pattern on both sides, just one lighter and one darker.  Both the tan and black colors pull the taupe dress and black leggings and booties together.

Here is the light colored side.........

One Dress. Four Looks!

.....and here is the dark colored side. I LOVE IT!

BONUS!!!

If you're looking to ditch the leggings, opt for an over the knee suede boot like these pair below. These will fit a slightly wider calf too.  Although they didn't make the photo shoot, they're a great option with the subtle detail around the ankle!

I hope this helps you think outside the box when it comes to mixing and matching. Remember to have fun with it and don't overthink your choices!

12 Holiday Dresses Under $100

Christmas, Fashion, Fave Picks, Handbags, Holiday, Shoes, Styling TipsAnneke McConnell

What I love about November 1st is the feeling of officially ushering in the holiday season.  In this month of Thanksgiving, I am reminded of how thankful I am for Christmas. ;-)  It's truly my favorite holiday.  While Jesus is the reason for the season, I love how this time brings friends, family and strangers alike together to celebrate life together.

If you have some upcoming events that call for a little cocktail dress wardrobe, this is a great place to start getting ideas for those nights at work parties, charity events, date nights, and even mommy daughter dates to the Nutcracker.

Also, sometimes we like to chat LIVE about these things on Facebook so I invite you to join the fun!

OK! So, for under $100 each, one or more of these will carry you through the season and beyond! High fives to that!

10. Long Black Lace Gown

11. Sea Blue One Shoulder Ruffle Ball Gown

Anything in this beautiful cobalt blue color is a winner in my book!  Add that gorgeous one shoulder ruffle detailing and this dress is a great option at only $49!  It's a nice step away from the classic black without going into the warmer red colors.

12. Lace Strapless Dress in Forest Green

If you lean toward this beautiful green color, this strapless dress with lace detail is a great option and $99 (and currently 25% off with code OMGYES).  You can pair it with classic black or gold heels and accessories or gold bold with some color!

I hope this helps you ladies kick off some pre-party shopping and find the perfect fit for your needs!  I know this may seem like a lot, but I've tried to pair things down after going through literally hundreds of items!  That's the research loving part of me coming out. ;-)
